Donation protected
Ellen Chapman was the first woman to run for election in Worthing, and in 1910 became the first woman councillor in England. She went on to be the first female Mayor of the Borough of Worthing in 1920-1922. (100 years ago this year).  She was a great campaigner for women’s Suffrage and  the rights of women in general and a humanitarian who raised funds to rebuild the Town of Richebourg after it was all but destroyed during the battle of the Boars Head, The Day that Sussex Died. This was a diversionary battle to the battle of the Somme, taking place one day prior to the Somme.
