Blue-Water Sailboat for Nicole Edwards

Hi, my name is MT and I’m fundraising for Nicole Edwards, a solo sailor who has found a boat that will take her around the world! With over 20 years of sailing and cruising experience, some of which has been solo, she is more than qualified to embark on this journey. The boat of choice is a 28’ Bristol Channel Cutter, the S/V Suits Us, owned for more than 35 years by an elderly solo female sailor who wants to pass her legacy on to the next generation.

Bristol Channel Cutters are highly respected sailboats and are currently ranked number one for the best small blue-water cruisers to circumnavigate. Suits Us is in the Dominican Republic, which is where Nicole has paused her journeys because her 26’ Columbia is not up to the task of a circumnavigation. She has inspected the vessel, the motor, the deck and the rigging in-person with the owner. It was originally priced at $55,000, but the owner is being very generous and has agreed to sell the boat, the hard-bottom dinghy with 15hp outboard, dive tanks, and all other vital cruising equipment for $25,000.

Nicole has wanted to sail around the world since she was 10 years old. She lived on a sailboat with her family for four years then raced dinghies and keelboats from a young child up through college. Her high school graduation project was on circumnavigation, she taught sailing at summer camps, has her captain’s license, and has crewed and lived on various boats since 2021, including a vessel without a working motor. She bought Arta out of desperation and in the past 18 months, fixed up the boat enough to sail 1500 nautical miles from Fort Pierce to Key West, through the Bahamas, to the Turks and Caicos and then finally to the Dominican Republic.
