Blythe’s medical bills and future care
Donation protected
Blythe suffered an L5-S1 disc injury to her back while caring for her youngest son, Griffin (16 mos) and had been managing her symptoms for several months. On Monday, July 18th Blythe was rushed to Central Dupage Hospital and diagnosed with development of cauda equina syndrome. Blythe was rushed into Emergency spinal surgery on Tuesday, July 19th.
Cauda Equina Syndrome- The cauda equina is the sack of nerve roots (nerves that leave the spinal cord between spaces in the bones of the spine to connect to other parts of the body) at the lower end of the spinal cord. These nerve roots provide the ability to move and feel sensation in the legs and the bladder.
This condition results when a spinal disc presses on the nerve roots. It cuts off sensation and movement. It can affect control of the bladder and the bowel.
Without quick treatment, problems can occur, including permanent paralysis, not being able to empty the bowel or bladder properly, and other problems can occur.
Blythe has been recovering after surgery and has had some relief in her symptoms, but continues with loss of sensation/weakness in her lower extremities and incontinence. Hopefully with time, these will continue to improve but the fear of the unknown has been heavy on her mind.
Blythe is not one to ask for help, however the cost of medical bills, inability to work, and potential need for extensive rehab and possible future procedures/surgeries will put strain on caring for her family.
Anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated. If you can’t donate, please keep Blythe and her family in your thoughts/prayers. ❤️
