Donate to Improve Larry Hammes' Quality of Life

My name is Sonja West and I am trying to raise money for a 74-year-old veteran who desperately needs to make his minivan equipped to carry a scooter or electric power chair. I am also trying to raise money to build a ramp so that he can get it in and out of his place of residence. I have helped him to file a claim for a non-service-connected pension and I'm doing all that I can to help him, but I just don't have the funds to do this for him.

His only income is the Social Security that he has worked for his whole life. He is not on disability but he does get his health care from the VA. He is struggling while he waits for his pension to go through. He rarely gets outside and that's only if he has an appointment at the VA. He has COPD, high blood pressure, and various other ailments that make each and every day a struggle for him. I just want him to be able to get out of his house and feel the sunshine every once in a while and we have tried to get this help through the VA and have been given the runaround.

He was prescribed a scooter last year and they wouldn't give it to him. The reasons change with each time we call up there but they have now said that they will give him a scooter if he can show them that he has a ramp and a way to transport it.
