Bạn Bè is recognized as the first Vietnamese American bakery in New York City. Doris Hồ-Kane, the archivist behind 17.21 WOMEN , is also the baker-owner behind Bạn Bè. The bakery is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn, which we also call home.

We’ve shied-away from this for as long as we possibly could. And we’ve never been great at asking for help. But it’s time to finally open our doors on a regular basis. Bạn Bè has existed since October 2019. We signed our lease for the space in December 2020. Up until this point, we’ve solely relied on cookie tin earnings and our personal savings. At a time when so many worthy causes, projects, and organizations deserve our care and support, we are infinitely grateful for your generosity and kindness.

Over the past 5½ years, Bạn Bè and 17.21 WOMEN have collectively supported critical organizations effecting positive change within marginalized communities, including our local AAPI community. We will continue to do so as we bloom. It’s an integral part of who we are.

This initial goal of $48,000 will enable us to get the ball rolling on opening our doors a few days a week, hiring a very small but mighty team, and making improvements to the (future) forward-facing retail area of the bakery. We moved into the space and left everything as-is in order to immediately dive into cookie tin production. Aside from a new door (Bạn Bèsties all know the infamous door which was on its last hinges), bringing things up to code, and fixing an electrical issue, nothing else has been touched.

We are hopeful that we will exceed this initial goal so that we can be open more days, hire a bigger team, update the kitchen, host community events, and maybe even get a Bạn Bè-mobile for deliveries.
