Bob Ahrens needs our help

This fundraiser is not associated with WFUV, 90.7FM.
Those viewing this have experienced or know the impact made by former sports director and executive producer of WFUV Sports, Bob Ahrens.
Many of you were mentored by Bob during your time at the station, learning about the importance of time + score, painting the word picture, and, most importantly, what it meant to be a professional. Others are alums or friends of the station that have been on the receiving end of Bob's (many) calls, seeking time for a student workshop or a variety of other requests, all in the best interests of his students.
So why are we doing this?
Bob is in need of financial help.
At age 85, he's supporting himself and his daughter, Jody, in their two-bedroom apartment in Cliffside Park, NJ. The savings accumulated during his time at WFUV have diminished to the point where his only source of income is Social Security and a modest broadcasting grant. Their monthly rent takes up nearly two-thirds of that, resulting in Bob being multiple months behind in payments. The landlord will need to take action if something doesn't change.
Bob devoted 20 years to WFUV and to many of us personally - and that devotion and mentorship didn't end when we graduated. He was always selfless in his support of our goals and dreams. To be able to watch us succeed in life, whether we stayed in broadcasting or not, was the only thing he asked for in return.
A contribution will go towards the following:
- Pay past-due rent owed to his landlord
- Support the search for a new, more affordable living situation
- Fund a subsequent move (movers, cleaning costs, furniture)
- Anything raised above the original target ($15,000) will be used toward paying down credit card debt.
***If you or someone you know has experience placing a senior citizen in an affordable senior care facility, we could use your knowledge in navigating the next steps to ensure that Bob's next living arrangement is a stable one.***
