God works in mysterious ways: in early August Brenda lost her job. Little did she know at that time her husband would need her by his side…but God did.
September 15th Bob went in to have a routine single bypass, which went really well and thought that he would be going home 3-5 days after the procedure.
September 17th they removed all of Bobs lines for medication, chest tubes and foley. He went to the telemetry floor to start walking and preparing to go home. His blood pressure would drop very low when he stood up to walk which made it difficult to get out of bed and walk. Once his blood pressure was stabilized he was able to get up and walk around.
However, Bob’s O2 would drop to 84 which made it difficult for him to walk around. With all of this happening, he was experiencing a lot of anxiety and hospital delirium at this point. Due to the continued difficulties breathing, it was decided to take Bob back to ICU and put him on a vent and do a bronchoscopy to see if there was something going on with the lungs. They tested for bacterial & viral infections which all came back negative. At this point they removed all antibiotics and had him on steroids trying to get his lungs healed.
Through all this his wife, Brenda got covid on September 30th. Bob tested positive for Covid on October 6th. It is believed the polomonologist that did his bronch had covid and gave it to Bob & his wife.
As of October, 24th Bob needs someone to watch him at all times and is still in the hospital. They are weaning him off some medications they have been giving him to see how he does. He is still bedridden. The hope is that his O2 and blood pressure stabilize so they can get him up and out of bed.
He has lost at least 30 pounds and has a beard and mustache. None of the family has ever seen him with facial hair!!!
Brenda has been driving back and forth, staying in hotels and eating out a lot and is exhausted most of the time.
Bob still has a long road ahead getting his strength back. It has been very difficult for the family to watch a strong independent active man go to being weak and not able to breath. Bob has some good days and some not so good days. Through all of this Bob & Brenda are accruing a tremendous amount of medical bills, Brenda is traveling back and forth between the hospital & home as well as hotel or VRBO rentals to stay closer to Bob. Funds will be used for travel for Brenda, hotel or home rental (VRBO/AirB&B), and medical expenses. Cards, prayers, and thoughts are much appreciated as well.
