Bob Coyle
Bob Coyle is a devoted servant to our Lord, a loving husband, an adoring father, and faithful friend. On January 20, 2020, Bob was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 where the collision with a concrete barrier and oncoming traffic left him with several injuries. He was transported to the Level 1 Trauma Center at Medical City in Denton. Bob has been diagnosed with orthopedic injuries as well as a far more concerning condition: a closed head injury.
To be clear, the nature of this injury has three specific areas of concern. In escalating severity, there are small intraparenchymal contusions (small bruises in the white matter of his brain), a subarachnoid hematoma (a blood blister between the layers that wrap around the outside of the brain), and finally a Diffuse Axonal Injury to the frontal lobe. That last injury is the most concerning.
DAI is classified into 3 stages, or rather grades. Grade 1 and Grade 3 appear pretty conclusive: Grade 1 generally has a good outcome, and grade 3 has a high, nearly imminent, high mortality associated with it. Bob has a Grade 2 DAI. This is a particularly frustrating diagnosis, because there is quite a bit of variability. There are many factors that contribute to the best positive recovery possible. Much prayer, vigilant clinical staff, personalized plan of care, Bob's strong will, and time.... Time will tell.
If you know Bob Coyle, then you know that he has never met a stranger. He has touched each and every person in his life for the better.
To anyone who donates, please know that the plan is to cover insurance deductible, support Emily as she works and cares for Bob over the upcoming 12 months, and care for the kids. He will require physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, as well as Neuro Rehabilitation. It will be a long road to recovery, but with your support - it can be more manageable.
