As 2016 draws to a close, our family has been faced with an unforeseen tradgedy that is still unfolding.
Several months ago, Bob began having what we thought were minor vision issues. From a lifetime of having perfect vision, he began experiencing blurriness in both eyes. Within a matter of weeks, his vision in his right eye went from blurriness, to dimness, to darkness. Once we saw the opthamologist, he referred us to a retina specialist that we were to see the following week. By the time we saw the retina specialist, the left eye had also begun to go dim as well. The retina in Bob's right eye was completely detached and the left eye retina was partially detached, both contained curious masses of scar tissue. Immediately, Bob was scheduled for multiple surgeries on the right eye in an attempt to save what was left. Surgeries are ongoing along with a multitude of doctor check-ups, post-op examinations, and unplanned visits due to painful complications. Life for the Hansler family has ground to a halt. As days of travel, overnight lodging, the logistics of raising our school-aged daughter, along with a near hourly regime of drugs and medications, to a nearly incapacitated Bob, who after the last surgery on his left eye is mostly dependent, requiring a guide to move around, assistance eating, and help with a thousand other tasks that a lack of vision has made difficult to near impossible... We are all exhausted, bills are adding up, and we are faced with an unknowable future. Without the ability to work at this time and the latest prognosis now requiring Bob to undergo additional surgeries only a week from this last one due to further complications, our finances are being stretched, to say the least.
To all of you reading this, be it family, friend, acquaintance, as well as the amazing community that has supported Bob's videos on YouTube, we appreciate anything you can afford to give at this time. We will give bi-monthly updates on Bob's surgeries and hopefully eventual recovery. Thank you for your generosity and prayers. I, (Bob's wife), will make it a priority to read your comments to Bob on a regular basis as he could use some encouragement between the pain and eternal darkness he is experiencing at this time. Please share this link. Thank you all and God bless.
