Bob & Janice Hartman's House Fire Recovery

Hello, we are Melissa, Erin, and Caitlin, the daughters of Bob & Janice Hartman, and we have been asked by many people how to help support our parents during this period of grief and mourning over the loss of their home -- our childhood home -- of 41 years, and of their two beloved cats, Nala & Charlie.

On Saturday, October 29, 2022 around 2:45pm, a fire started on the outside of our parents' home in the back. The fire spread rapidly and our parents were unable to recover any items on their way out, in order to save their lives. The house burned down extremely quickly and violently, and was determined to be unstable and unsafe. Therefore, by 9pm that evening, the home and all of its contents were demolished.

In addition to being Jan & Bob's home that they purchased right after their wedding, and as well as being the childhood home of the three of us, it was also always a welcoming space for anyone who needed a place to stay temporarily -- or sometimes even not-so-temporarily! Countless gatherings of family and friends have occurred here over the years, and so many memories have been made... So many people have known the warmth and joy that this home provided, and that was, of course, due to the love and warmth of Bob & Jan.

Our family has lost almost all of our childhood photos, heirlooms, family mementos, and countless other things in this fire. But obviously, Bob & Jan have lost literally everything. Everything, that is, except each other, us, our families, and their friends.
