Bob Skorupa with mounting medical expenses.

Hello, my name is Carolyn Skorupa. On September 18,2023, my husband, Bob Skorupa, entered the hospital and was diagnosed with a debilitating and rare disorder called Guillain Barre Syndrome. Prior to his diagnosis, Bob worked full time and was an active, healthy seventy year old. There are numerous causes for this rare disorder but thus far and after many tests his doctors do not know how he contracted Guillian Barre Syndrome. Bob’s symptoms began about two weeks before he was hospitalized. He complained of extreme fatigue and pain in his legs and feet. His weight plummeted as his appetite wained. The pain in his feet became so severe that he became unable to ambulate. We could not think of a cause for his symptoms as his health began to rapidly deteriorate. Once hospitalized he began to notice that his feet and both hands became paralyzed. This disorder begins in ascending order first paralyzing the feet, hands and eventually the diaphragm which is the main muscle used to breath. Treatment must be instituted quickly or death is imminent. The medical team were baffled at first and could not find a definitive diagnosis as initial tests were negative for this disorder, which delayed life saving treatment. Bob’s condition rapidly deteriorated and he developed aspiration pneumonia,a bowel blockage which ruptured causing him to become septic. His kidneys began to shut down and he now requires daily kidney dialysis treatments. He underwent bowel resection surgery which he survived. His doctors began the only medication to treat this fatal disorder which has been somewhat effective. He continues to recover in the ICU. He is unable to ambulate and remains bed bound. He is being tube fed.He is coherent and as he becomes more so and understands the seriousness of his condition his mood is becoming more depressed. The medical expenses continue to mount and Bob will need extensive rehab once he is discharged from the hospital.we continue to hope and pray that he will one day will be able to regain the use of his hands and feet and be able to return home. I myself am disabled with a rare auto immune disorder and I have had to rely on my husband for my care. With no source of income I do not know how we will survive. I am requesting financial donations on this site to help with medical expenses and basic daily necessities. Any monetary amount that you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and may God Bless you.
