Bobby Hastings

On 7/31/2023, our brother Robert "Lil Bobby" Hastings passed away.

In April, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. On May 12th, he had the "whipple procedure" in Indianapolis to have the tumor removed from his pancreas. The surgery went well. Bobby was to stay for a week recovery, and then spend the rest of his recovery time in a rehabilitation center. And then home a couple weeks later.

That is not how things played out. When being transferred to South Bend, Bobby's incision was torn, because of the driver's wreckless driving, and started draining. They made an emergency stop in Peru, and left him at Memorial Hospital down there. He was picked up by family.

He made it to the rehab center, but ended up with infection and developed DKA. He was then air lifted back to Indianapolis, came back a few weeks later. Things were going well, then his incision started draining even worse. He was airlifted a 2nd time back to Indy. Had a bag put on him to collect the drainage. He was sent back to South Bend a few weeks later.

Still going through many complications, he stayed there for a couple weeks. On Sunday, 7/30, Bobby was rushed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He was going through multiple -organ failure. His heart rate was high, his oxygen level and blood count was low. Along with all of that, he had sepsis to go along with his late stage cancer. Bobby made a choice which we accepted and respected, he decided he did not want life support. Just comfort. He never made it home.

Bobby was a loved member of the community. After losing both parents at a young age, Lil Bobby became a welcomed member of our family. Bobby loved his family blood or not he was a brother, uncle, and most of all a friend to everyone he met. Bobby was also a huge Notre Dame fan and enjoyed attending games. He enjoyed playing games with his nieces and nephews. He also loved his music, that was his life. He always wanted to be a DJ. He even had a DJ name, " DJ PublikDisturbant".

None of this was expected, Bobby didnt have much to leave behind, and did not have life insurance. We are doing our best with what we have, to give him the farewell he deserves.

Any help would be very very appreciated. All funds donated will be used to give Bobby a proper goodbye and any other expenses the family has.
