Mr. B. Malibirr - Family, Community Support in Ramingining

My name is Allen Murphy. It is with profound sadness that I set up this GoFundMe campaign to assist with support, comfort and care for the family of dear friend Bobby Malibirr. My deepest condolences go to his wife Lisa, their children, his sons and daughters, and to the Ramingining Community. A musician, painter, ceremony man and friend, he has impacted and inspired the lives of all who knew him, at home and around the world. His patient and understanding manner, his sense of humour, his deep sense of sharing, empathy and commitment to his culture, his ability to share his stories with so many people will be lovingly remembered.

I have had the honour of working with Bobby as his drummer and musical colleague over the years, he has travelled the world, travelled around Australia, particularly Melbourne where his musical and personal connection to so many was a blessing and truly joyful. My honour to be associated with him. I have witnessed the many times he has extended his hand in kindness, compassion and healing through his gift of music, art, and not least, laughter.

I am hoping to raise funds to assist his immediate family as well as members of his community with the many expenses coming up before Bobby's funeral in late September. These costs include food, tents, power cards, phone credits, transport assistance, fuel, blankets, swags...all that is needed to make his family and his community comfortable in this overwhelmingly difficult time. There are many families in Ramingining deserving of this basic support, unfortunately there are several funerals to happen before the end of September, many families are facing the same emotional heartache, struggles and difficulties in trying to honour their elders in the best way, while living their day to day lives the best they can.

I encourage all who read this whether they personally knew Bobby or not, only heard of him, were captivated by his voice and his musicality or his artwork, had the great pleasure of meeting and spending time with him, sharing a story, watched him in the movie Ten Canoes amongst others, watched and listened to him on stage over the years with Waak Waak Jungi... please support if you can.

We have been at a loss as to how much is an appropriate amount to aim for, taking into account the number of people this will impact. There is now an agreed $25,000 target for family and community support. The funds will be directly transferred to and managed by daughter Selena Malibirr/Munguluma. It's only logistics and to keep things moving that I'm listed as a beneficiary.
