Robert (Bob) Croft is the grandfather of USA Freediving and the first person to hold a freediving world record as a US athlete.
While working at the submarine escape facility for the US Navy he honed his breath holding abilities. This led to a run of freediving record attmepts that were studied by the Navy and three successful world records in the late sixties.
Bob was also a submariner working with some of the navy's experimental submarines. He was also one of the early scuba instructors for both NAUI and PADI.
His lineage in diving, freediving and naval history is profound. We have been trying to have hi recognized by the diving insdustry for over ten years. It has begun.
Bob has been awarded the honor of the NOGI Award in 2016 and it will be presented to him at the DEMA Show in Las Vegas in November 2016. The DEMA Show is the annual diving industry trade show.
The Academy of Underwater Arts and Science is the presenter of the NOGI which awards iconic figures in diving with recognitions for outstanding achievements in several areas of diving. Bob has been selected in the category of Sports and Education.
