Bodhi's Medical Bills
Donation protected
On Thursday, August 25, my little dog Bodhi got out of the yard through a gate I thought was securely closed. He was hit by a car by our driveway. The driver did not stop. I found him alive but in shock shortly thereafter. I rushed him to the vet. He had a traumatic brain injury and a spinal fracture, and the vet said I should consider euthanasia. I would have none of that—not yet. The next morning I drove him six hours to the UC Davis Veterinary Small Animal Hospital, where he made slow but steady progress. After five nights in the hospital, I was able to bring him home where he continues his recovery. Needless to say, the bills are adding up and I am maxing out my credit cards. The emergency visit was $995.76. The pain injection the next day before our drive to Davis was another $16. The charges so far for treatment at UC Davis is $3312.00. We have follow-up visits as well. The drive to Davis and back is about $60. I also needed to purchase a crate for him to stay in during his recovery. That was $42.70. And lots of pee pads. First box—$20.
Bodhi was a special needs rescue when I adopted him two and a half years ago. He was very anxious and frightened, but with patience and generous rewards, I was able to earn his trust and then help him to trust others. He has turned out to be a most wonderful dog and a delightful companion. I am retired and on a limited income. I am very much in need of help in paying these bills.
