Bone Cancer, Nala's Need for Life Saving Surgery
Donation protected
What Happened?↓
Nala recently learned to use stairs, one morning she fell while making her climb to the top resulting in an injured her hind leg. She was taken to the vet for x-rays and they revealed that the bone weakened by tumorous growth was the cause of her fall. These tumors were likely Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer. We were referred to a specialist in Pittsburgh and endured another round of x-rays that brought mixed news; the suspected cancer was not present in her chest but her other hind leg had an abnormality. Biopsies were performed on both legs to confirm the cancer diagnosis and investigate the abnormality. A week later the results came in, cancer confirmed in her left leg and not her right. This is good news and means a treatment option can be pursued. Unfortunately, medical bills are a mile high and surgery cannot be afforded.
↓Treatment options?↓
Limb amputation and chemotherapy.
The bone in her leg cannot heal, it causes her constant pain. She wears a cast to stabilize the bone. It limits her mobility and cannot run and play like she used to.
↓Urgency?↓
She needs to start chemotherapy as soon as possible.
Chemotherapy cannot begin until she recovers from amputation surgery.
Chemotherapy needs to happen before the cancer can spread.
Life expectancy without treatment is 2-3 months.
↓What will the funds be used for?↓
All funds will go towards her treatment.
The majority will go towards limb amputation, chemo cannot begin until she recovers from surgery. Estimated cost of surgery $4900.
Ball park figure given for chemo is an additional $8000
