Urgent Bone Marrow Transplant For 4 Year Old

Hi,

My name is Amrit Basra, I am a medical doctor by profession.

I am a Ugandan born - Australian citizen from Melbourne.

I am organising this fundraiser on behalf of Alex Otim & Margaret Akado for their 4 year old daughter Elizabeth Apio who is suffering from sickle cell anaemia.

This beautiful family is from my home town in Lira, Uganda (East Africa).

Elizabeth was diagnosed with Homozygous Sickle Cell Anaemia at the age of 6 months and has been hospitalised 25 times due to complications of the disease requiring multiple blood transfusions.

Sickle cell anemia is a serious disease for which a blood and bone marrow transplant is currently the only cure. Elizabeth lives in Uganda where there is no facility to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

She is in critical condition and will require bone marrow transplant to save her life. To help her we have reached out to haematologists in India and plan to get her treated at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, India.

Elizabeths treatment will require a 3-4 month stay in India with an estimated treatment cost of $ 61,000 AUD. In addition, the family will also need funds for travel from Uganda to India, accomodation while in India, food, etc.

It is very difficult for Elizabeths parents to support her treatment due to lack of funds.

I'd kindly ask you to donate anything you can spare whether big or small to help this family. All money will go directly to the family to help with medical bills/ hospital expenses/ food etc.
