Bonnie Dye-Maynard's Transplant Expenses

Hi, my name is Jessica Cole, and Bonnie Dye is my mother. I started this GoFundMe for my mom because she needs a double lung transplant. For over three years, my mom has struggled to breathe, stay alive, and get on the transplant list. She has faced challenge after challenge. Recently my whole family's wish came true, and my mom went on the list! My mom's transplant team is more than 4 hours away in New York City. She often travels there for meetings with her transplant team, tests, procedures, and other pre-transplant-related care. These appointments are often very early in the morning, requiring my mom and her support person ( required to even get a transplant) to stay in a hotel, which is not cheap.

Add that to the cost of gas to the city and back to her home, tolls and bridge fees, the cost of hospital parking, which is $10 an hour, plus needing to eat at some point; one trip can add up. (Everything in New York City is plain expensive.)

Once my mom gets the transplant, she is looking at a hospital stay of 4 to 8 weeks if all goes well. Longer if she faces complications. The time frame is up in the air till it all plays out. My mom's support person will also have to be there for her a lot, and they will have to travel the 4 hours back and forth to their home when they can and stay in a hotel when going home is impossible.

After the transplant, when my mom can go home, she will have to make the 4-hour drive once a week to meet with her transplant team for the first three months at least. Many more visits will also have to be made over the first year but should be less frequent.

Many financial unknowns hang over my mother's head because she will not know how often she or her support person will have to make the 4-hour drive or what expenses will occur each time until they happen. A lot will depend on how the transplant goes along with if any complications arise. The toll on her health and the worry of everything that comes with being on the transplant list and waiting to get one is a lot. She is now worried about how she will pay for all the traveling and other expenses that go along with it all. She needs help, and there is only so much her family can do. So this GoFundMe is to help her with the unknown expenses and take some of her worries away.
