As many of you know, I am a cancer survivor -- the treatments I endured caused my teeth to weaken significantly and ultimately, many of them cracked, broke, and/or fell out. Beyond the physical challenges (I have difficulty eating, frequent infections in my mouth, and persistant pain), the loss of my teeth has led me to isolate myself socially as I am truly embarrassed by my current "smile".
To add to the urgency of treating my dental impairments is that now I need to have the dental work done prior to having a surgical heart procedure. I, like most Americans, cannot afford any dental insurance, and despite the cause-and-effect link from my chemotherapy and radiation to the deterioration of my teeth, Medicare will not cover any of the work I need done (and believe me, we've tried every angle). We had been putting a little aside as we can to try to pay for this ourselves, when suddenly, our A/C compressor blew -- and even with the warrantly, to get our air up and running again, which is truly mandatory in Florida and not at all a luxury, is quite costly, thus forcing us to break open the "dental piggy bank" and reallocate.
So, my dear friends, I am swallowing my pride and reaching out to ask for your help. The extractions and ultimate replacement of nearly all of my teeth will cost an estimated $6,500. My goal is to begin my dental treatments by the end of May. If any of you can find your way to please consider helping to fund my dental procedures, I would greatly appreciate it!
