Bonnie's Physical Rehab

First, let me thank those of you who have already contributed - you have our heartfelt gratitude.
As some of you are already aware, while Bonnie was walking back to her vehicle after an Independence Day fireworks display, she stepped into a 6” hole causing her to fall dislocating and breaking her right ankle in three places.  The technical term for the injury is Trimalleolar fracture.  In addition she sprained her right thumb – one of the two that have severe load bearing limitations due to multiple surgeries to both.  As a further complication, her bones are soft preventing her from putting any weight at all on the ankle for the next 8 -12 weeks, depending upon her rate of healing.  One more thing, unlike you or I, Bonnie is extremely limited in what she can take for pain relief.  She’s allergic to some while the others, in sufficient doses, make her sick no matter how much anti-nausea meds accompany them. In the right amount, they sedate allowing her relief from sleep.  OTC pain relievers do not work. While Memorial seems to have come up with something that gives some relief, the rehabilitation part of recovery will be a bear.   The physical challenges these injuries and strength limitations present are daunting to say the very least.

Truth is, Bonnie’s recovery will depend a great deal upon the quality of care she receives with proper nutrition, intensive physical therapy and in the short term at least, intensive, capable care to be able to accomplish the simplest of maneuvers, all with the long term goal of getting her back on her feet again!

A short-term care inpatient rehabilitation facility is the only option that will meet Bonnie’s needs.  The cost of the facility of first choice is approximately $400 per day with the 3 hours per day therapy prescribed.  There is a second choice for a bit less, but not much. So...

You are probably wondering, and No, Blue Cross and BS does not cover this at all and Bonnie does not have Medicare. So the amount of this most critical care she will receive during the next couple of weeks at least, and perhaps longer, will depend almost entirely upon the generosity of those who will answer this request.

Would you please consider contributing?  Whether great or small, every act of kindness is deeply appreciated and will have a direct impact on her prognosis.  The goal is simple; to get Bonnie where she will get the best care for as long as needed or until the money runs out.

Thank you all so much for your prayers, well wishes and kind consideration.
Warm Regards, Charlie Ruff
