Hi, my name is Kay, and I live in the remote, northern community of Atlin, BC, with my partner. I am 38 years old and am finishing my first book called Paddling Back to Us: A Journey into Wildness on Connected Waterways. The book is creative non-fiction and tells the story of a 1000-kilometre kayaking pilgrimage I did through Canada's northern wilderness in 2018.
In addition to launching my new life as a writer, I want to start a family. To conceive, my partner and I need to undergo expensive fertility treatments. I have decided to use my book and its illustrations to help raise the money we need to cover my fertility treatments, which are scheduled to start this September.
With every donation of $10 and above, you will receive a blank notecard with an image of one of my paintings.
For donations of $80, you will receive a notecard and a copy of my book.
For donations of $100, you will receive a notecard, a copy of my book and a print of one of my paintings.
For donations of $500, you will receive a notecard, a copy of my book and three prints of my paintings.
For donations of $1000 or more, you will receive a notecard, a copy of my book, three prints of my paintings, and one of my original paintings to hang on your wall (limited to a selection of 13, see photos below).
Because fertility treatments aren't covered by public health care, they are costly. For those of you who have undergone Invitro Fertilization (IVF), you also know that the chances of conceiving are not always good. It's a roll of the dice, and some couples have lower chances of success than others. Some people must undergo these expensive treatments numerous times to become parents. I have already experienced an unsuccessful IVF treatment costing around $25,000. Living up north makes undergoing these treatments even more expensive because of travel to the Vancouver clinic and accommodation costs while down there. I have a fundraising goal of $40,000 so that some funds can go to my IVF treatments while also covering the costs of creating the notecards, prints, book printing and shipping the paintings.
