Books 4 Zambia

Our mission is to empower Zambian educators and communities by providing books, educational materials, and recreational equipment to under-resourced schools and libraries.

 

In July of 2022, we will send off our third shipping container chock full of 1,170 cubic feet of books (approximately 30,000, in case you were wondering!) as well as educational technology and recreational equipment. This year’s partner is the Siankaba School of Livingstone, Zambia which is starting a school (pre-school-gr. 12) and community library.

 

In the past, we have had the privilege of working with the Quincy Public Schools, the Rotary Club of Quincy, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Zambia, and have shipped over 60,000 books (during drives in 2007 and 2011) to our three partner schools– Chongololo, Nyakutwa, and Saint Margaret’s–as well as filled a public library in the town of Chipata, Zambia.

In addition to collecting funds for shipping, we are also collecting BOOKS, educational materials, and sports equipment.  Local supporters, please drop donations at Atlantic Middle School, 86 Hollis Ave, Quincy, MA 02171, Monday-Friday 8am-3pm, or email us to arrange a pick-up: [email redacted]. 

We appreciate books of ALL ages/genres/subjects.  We also recognize that all readers deserve to see themselves reflected in literature, so we are especially seeking books by Black authors, featuring Black characters  We hope to exceed our shipping goal so that we can use the extra funds to support local authors and publishing; we seek to celebrate and support Zambian writers!
