Books for Classroom 709

Hi, Joann here! I have been a public educator serving underprivileged youth in grades 7-12 since January 2007. Each year, I look to create a comfortable safe environment for my students as an escape from the pressures of being a teen. One way that I do this is by making content relatable and relevant. Every year I spend, as you can imagine if you know a teacher, lots of my own money providing my students with the materials they need to feel successful. This year, with only 5 days to the new school year, my schedule was changed and I was assigned 11th-grade English. It's not a problem, except... the book selection for this grade level at our school is well... eh. My goal is to read novels that students do not want to put down, novels that help them explore their identity in a fast-changing society while also questioning the society we live in. Purchasing class sets is going to cost a pretty penny so I am reaching out for help to provide my students with these reads. I plan on purchasing the sets via Amazon because of the quick delivery. I hope to start Mexican White Boy ASAP. The other books I will be purchasing are Gabi, A Girl in Pieces and Internment. The books will get many years of use. Please consider donating! My students and I thank you!
