Books for New Hope Elementary
Donation protected
The students at New Hope Elementary School, in Orange County, NC, need books to read this summer to combat summer reading loss and preserve the wonderful success they’ve achieved during this current school year!
Help us help them go home for summer break with 10 new books that they’ll get to choose during a Books on Break event at New Hope Elementary School.
Just $25 will provide a home library of 10 new books for one New Hope Elementary student. Research has demonstrated that summer reading is as helpful as summer school in maintaining reading levels.
Our goal of $6,000 will provide books for all 240 K-2 students at the school.
In The Literacy Crisis: False Claims, Real Solutions (1998), Jeff McQuillan reports that the biggest predictor of academic success is not race, income, gender, or parents' education. It is the presence of books in the home. At New Hope Elementary, one in four students lives in poverty and 64% are eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch. These students need our help!
Books on Break is a program of Book Harvest, an exemplary local non-profit that is dedicated to rewriting outcomes for all children in need in the Triangle area by providing a home library of books to all low-income children. Since its launch in 2011, Book Harvest has given over 530,000 books to children and families in our community.
