Boombox Finds a New Home

Calling Boomboxers,

We need your help!

In true 2020/21 fashion Boombox was served with a reno-viction notice for April 30th. We have been told the owner is selling the trailer, with no plans to help us rehouse this much-loved space.

We have put so much work into building this community that there is no way we would let this be the end of Boombox and the amazing work that happens inside. As Vancouver becomes more and more expensive as a city,   we know just how important Boom is (maybe more so than ever). We want nothing more than to continue to support the Vancouver Arts Community and the artists we have planned to collaborate with in the coming months. This is where you come in.

We are hoping to raise $7,000 which will cover the cost of purchasing and relocating the trailer for the next few months while we work out a long-term plan to continue to grow Boombox and the community. If you are interested in supporting Boombox, follow the link provided.

Thank you to everyone that has supported us over the years! We are so grateful for you all and hope that this news, although tough, leads to a new and brighter beginning for Boombox.

We'll see you in the box very soon.

About Boombox:

“An alternative 53 feet of performance space”

Boombox is a performance space built in a semi-truck trailer, founded on a desire to create work and have an accessible workplace. Boombox founders Diego Romero, Katie Lowen, and Ileanna Cheladyn set out to create a space where artists had the freedom to engage with the community and present the work they wanted to without restrictions. Boombox is now an established member of the Vancouver Arts Community and a hub for independent performance productions.

After an intense period of renovations, Boombox became a home base for creative processes, providing a safe, private, and alternative environment that doubles as a theatre and rehearsal space. The obscure dimensions of the space (53”x9”x9”) encourage building unconventional site-specific works. After 5 years of operation, Boombox has grown beyond our expectations and has had the opportunity to collaborate with over 50 artists in the Vancouver Arts Community of varying disciplines and generations.
