Support Alexia's Mobility with a Wheelchair Accessible Van
Donation protected
The Community Outreach Committee is seeking your support to help a remarkable member of our community, Alexia Jambor, a third grader at Barnard Elementary. Alexia and her family dream of purchasing a van that can safely transport her wheelchair, giving her the freedom to navigate the world with maximum independence.
Alexia is an engaging and active 8-year-old who loves being outdoors, swimming, playing at the playground, and going on adventures with her family. Despite having an ultra-rare progressive neuromuscular disease that has taken away the use of her hands and legs, Alexia remains cognitively intact and maintains a positive attitude. She uses a specially designed wheelchair created by the University of Michigan, which she drives using her chin. This unique wheelchair is crucial for her independence.
Currently, Alexia’s parents do not have a vehicle that can safely accommodate her wheelchair. A companion van can cost upwards of $80,000 brand new. Instead, they attach a rack to the back of their vehicle and trailer the wheelchair from place to place. This method is risky, leaving the wheelchair vulnerable to damage in the event of a crash and exposure to wind and weather.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help Alexia’s family purchase a wheelchair-accessible van. This van will allow Alexia to remain in her wheelchair while traveling, ensuring her safety and independence on every journey.
Thank you for considering a donation to this worthy cause. Your support will make a significant difference in Alexia’s life, enabling her to take her wheelchair wherever she goes. Funds will be sent to Alexia's mother Stephanie.
