Boost Ann Arbor's Public Art Scene

Hello friends and fellow Ann Arborites!

As you may know by now, TreeTown Murals, Constellations Consulting, and Ann Arbor residents Larry & Lucie Nisson have teamed up to completely transform the railroad overpass on Huron Street near First Street into a beautiful mural installation.

Deemed a "gateway" into Ann Arbor, this is one of two public art bridge projects aimed at transforming two key entry ways to our City. The second location is the Railroad (RR) underpass on Main Street near M-14 & Argo Dam. The murals being planned for these locations will not only cover the concrete wing walls sides of the underpass, but will include murals on the fascia beams (the metal RR bridge over the road); with beautifully painted "Welcome" messaging.

This two-fold project entitled, "Murals That Bridge," will transform these locations into colorful and welcoming entry points to downtown for the tens of thousands of people who drive and walk past them everyday.

It has taken us over a year to navigate all of the requirements, fundraising, permits and approvals involved with giving this project a green-light from the City, MDOT & RR bridge owners, Watco. We are proud to announce that the work will finally begin in early June, 2024 on Huron Street! We expect the first RR bridge project to be completed in July 2024, with murals on the Main Street underpass to be added in August 2024.

We have already completed the Huron St. mural (please come check it out), and now we need to raise more capital to successfully beautify the North Main Street bridge.

Money raised will go towards commissioning youth and professional artists for the North Main Street project, all supplies and equipment, permits, and labor, to clean and restore the surfaces before painting.
