Booth Cricket Club Pavilion Project

Donation protected
Booth Cricket Club, formed in 1893, play in the Halifax Cricket League and currently run two senior and two junior sides. In the recent past we have run as many as three senior sides alongside four junior teams.

Our current pavilion was built around 1980 and when built, was one of the first modern huts to include a bar, changing rooms, showers, toilets and canteen. All this still exists internally and through redecoration, development and maintenance we have an interior which is homely and welcoming for anyone who wishes to visit.

The internal space acts not just as a cricket pavilion, it is a hub for the local community. The club is utilised for christenings, weddings, funerals, birthday parties as well as fell races, church meetings, neighbourhood watch meetings and community quizzes.

However, none of the internal space would matter if the actual shell of the pavilion wasn't fit for purpose. Unfortunately, this is the position we find ourselves in and the exterior of the pavilion has now reached the end of its life. We currently have issues such as water ingress around the base of the building, roof problems (including full structure of the roof), outer tin walls buckling and bending as well as old wooden windows and door frames in some parts. Elements of the exterior can be patched, (and have been many times over the years) but there are only so many times this can be done.

We have looked into a brand new pavilion, we did have a hope that this would be possible with grants and funding, but unfortunately, the current climate has put a stop to that.

We have therefore decided to improve what we have and the committee have commissioned a project which will include making the building watertight, secure, reclad and reroofed. This will then give us a modern looking pavilion, with a tanalised timber cladding on the entrance side and the front, with metal sheet cladding along the back and the road side of the building. This is hopefully going to be completed over the next month, which will give us a new look pavilion for the start of this coming season.

The aim of this is to future proof our cricket pavilion, which as stated is not just a cricket pavilion, it is an asset to the local community.

These improvements will give us the opportunity to move forward with the current footprint and give us potential to make improvements in the future to the internal space and floor plans.

Over the next year, we will be running a number of events to try and raise money towards this project ourselves but any donations towards this work would be gratefully appreciated and can be sent via this crowdfunding page.

You may have never played for Booth, but it’s likely that if you’re reading this you will have played a game against us, or been here for a function. We hope you may be able to help contribute to helping towards its future.

Many thanks for reading.
