Boquillas Covid Response Fund 2
Donation protected
Boquillas del Carmen is a village of 250 souls across the Rio Grande from Big Bend National Park, Texas. Its economy is dependent on visitors from Big Bend. Due to Covid-19, "non-essential traffic" is restricted between the US and Mexico. The Port of Entry was closed March 21, 2020. The federal order has been extended one month at a time since that date. The current order runs through March 21, 2021. It is likely the closure will be extended beyond that date. The months of March and April are the most popular to visit and therefore the people of Boquillas receive a large part of their annual income during those months. We are redoubling our efforts to assist our friends in need.
We coordinate our efforts with the municipal government of Ocampo, a 12,000 square mile jurisdiction that includes Boquillas and 40 more remote villages and ejidos. They purchase the supplies at government warehouses at the best prices available and deliver the goods at no expense to the fund. We understand that there are many needs during these trying times and hope you will be able to donate to this cause. Thank you for your attention.
