Borderlands Ensemble - Place and Identity
Donation protected
Hello! The Borderlands Ensemble is a chamber music group that aims to make classical music engaging and relevant to all people. Our goal is to share music in new ways with listeners across the borderlands region. We support composers and believe in the medium of contemporary art music to open hearts, shed light on humanity, and create collective experiences. We also enjoy performing pop, rock, and folk crossover music. We strive to celebrate diversity in everything we do, to honor the traditions of southern Arizona, and to work to create social change in the borderlands community through music.
Over the past three years, we have been working on a special project exploring how place and identity are linked and how both are expressed through music. We worked with four composers to create new musical compositions and with visual artist Jessica Gonzales to create four beautiful paintings, each one inspired by a piece of music. We recorded the music and released our very first album on August 6 with New Focus Recordings. You can listen to the music and download the album on our bandcamp page!
We are grateful to everyone for coming out to concerts, making donations, and telling their friends about what we are up to. Creating high quality classical musical experiences requires significant resources - that includes paying the composers, performers, artists, venues, stage crew, record label, production staff, and more. It is our goal to present concerts with free or low-cost admission. Your support of this project helps us support artists and bring art into the Tucson community. We believe live music experiences bring us closer together and grow our understanding of each other and the world.
Any donation of $25 or more includes a signed copy of the CD once it is complete.
Thank you for supporting community-driven classical music and art!
