Borderline Personality Disorder is at its worst in terms of the severity of symptoms during a patient's 20's, which exacerbates the urgency of the situation regarding our friend (whose name has to remain private due to immediate risk).

Our friend needs urgent treatment for this disorder. This treatment is largely inaccessible and expensive due to a neglect on the side of the psychiatric system. 10% of BPD patients will die by suicide, and 75% of patients attempt at least once. See more information of the risks below.* Counterintuitively, the seriousness of this disorder has led to a devastatingly low amount of options for treatment since not many people are willing to take on the risk. The only treatment available which has proven to be extremely effective is called Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a year long arduous process with a lot of intensive components. Those that are available free of charge have waitlists that can be multiple years long, which given the risk of suicide in the situation, is not a possibility for our friend. Many BPD patients face frequent hospitalizations due to immediate safety concerns and as such they make up 20% of all inpatients. Still, inpatient care for immediate danger in BPD cases is so ineffective in terms of treatment that every Emergency Room psychiatrist has expressed directly to our friend that being admitted would be useless. There is no medication for borderline personality disorder, and the disorder can stem from continuous childhood trauma and attachment issues, resulting in various common comorbidities. Our friend suffers from BPD, ADHD, PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. It has become extremely difficult to find the treatment necessary for Borderline Personality Disorder, until recently. We have found a clinic which would be able to provide DBT, the one treatment that has proven to reduce suicidality in BPD patients, and treat our friend on an immediate basis. It is imperative that our friend receives this treatment urgently and on an immediate basis due to the risk of suicidality present in her case.
