In 2003, Meredith Bergmann created the Boston Women's Memorial – one of the only public art installations in Boston to showcase historical women. Twenty years later, Cappella Clausura is partnering with Suffrage100MA , the Boston Women's Heritage Trail , and other local artists and historians to ensure that this monument gets the anniversary celebration it deserves!
The event: Three Women. The date: May 7th, 2023. The guest list: wide open! We're so excited to bring together Bostonians from all walks of life to enjoy music and presentations inspired by the Boston Women's Memorial. The concert portion of the event features three newly-commissioned works by BIPOC female composers with a local connection, all set to the writings of the memorial's subjects: Abigail Adams, Lucy Stone, and Phillis Wheatley. This one-time-only, free-to-the-public event is a celebration of the women who have shaped our city's history– and inspiration for the next generation of female leadership!
We want this event to be accessible for EVERYONE who loves Boston, so we need your help to cover the costs of putting on this event. In addition to covering rental fees for our rehearsal and performance venues, we need to fairly compensate the composers who create these never-before-heard pieces of music, the professional artists who will be performing them, and the speakers at the event, which include local historians and the memorial's sculptor, Meredith Bergmann.
Representation matters. Women's history matters. Let's make sure Bostonians can celebrate the long legacy of female leaders in their city while uplifting the changemakers of tomorrow!
