#Boston2017 for Eddie Halperin

Donation protected
Over 20 years ago, I was blessed with meeting an amazing human being named Eddie Halperin. Through our teenage and college years, our friendship ran the gamut - from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. We laughed, cried, toasted, danced, bodysurfed, roadtripped and grew up together.  Eddie was the glue that held our group of friends together - he kept us sane; kept us together when we could've drifted apart & kept us apart when necessary so we could come back together.  I've posted about him; I've blogged about him; I've cried for him; I looked to him for guidance and now it's time to do something for him.

As life went on, Eddie showed incredible promise and the world was seemingly his for the taking - a degree from Colgate; studying Law at Cornell; a job awaiting him at a big law firm in NYC. However, in the summer of 2002 something was wrong with Eddie and soon after that he was diagnosed with, and ultimately succumbed to, pancreatic cancer. Although he accomplished quite a bit in his short time in this world, Eddie's death left a gaping hole in the hearts of countless friends and family members. None of us have been the same since that day in 2003 when we said goodbye.

Fast forward to Fall 2015. I finally, after years of trying, ran a fast enough marathon to qualify for #Boston2017, which will happen right around when Eddie would have been about to turn 40.  It also happens 13 months from now, and it just so happens that it has been 13 years since Eddie's passing. Thus, I have decided to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research in honor of Eddie, to cement his legacy and to provide for those who need help.

My goal is ultimately set for $13,013 - to represent the years since Eddie left us; to represent the months until #raceday; and, 13 is my lucky number, which coincidentally was also the jersey number of the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins - our favorite football team. It's a LOFTY goal - a HUGE number, and I am currently researching the best, most beneficial groups to donate the proceeds of this fundraiser too. I'm willing to start at $13, then $130, then $1300...I'm sure we can do that & more. Will we get to THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS? We will see.

Oh and by the way, here are some other incentives:

I'm not taking a day off from running between now and then. I actually haven't taken one off since October, and plan to run at least 20 minutes/day as part of this streak to prove to myself that 20 minutes is NOTHING - and that's how much I want to PR by in #Boston2017. I also haven't and won't get a haircut during this streak/my training AND the individual who donates the most money between now and race day gets to shave my head/beard OR pick the hairstyle/facial hair theme I sport on Patriot's Day.

So, think it over. Help me run #Boston2017 in Eddie's memory and help me raise money to help people fight the same fight Eddie fought. My official training for this starts on 3/21. Stay tuned! Remember, all profits will directly benefit Pancreatic Cancer research so please consider donating!
