Boxers PHL Staff Virtual Tip Jar

Boxers PHL is currently facing closure because a hostile party has challenged the transfer of their Liquor License.  While management works with local offices to try and resolve this issue, this means that the staff is effectively out of work.

Boxers has provided a space for countless performers, DJs, and events.  It’s a place to catch some of Philly’s best drag hostesses and performers on a Tuesday, a place to shoot some pool, a friendly Friday happy hour spot and a place to hear some of the best DJ talent in the neighborhood.  Their workers, members of our community, have served us, bonded with us, and been our hosts in one of the handful of LGBT spaces we have.  Their efforts lately to diversify their staff and their programming has given Boxers PHL a distinctly Philly flavor that sets them apart from their former New York pedigree and makes them uniquely ours. 

As they’ve taken care of us, it’s time for us to take care of them.

The service industry comes with a lot of rewards - getting to bond with customers, formingrelationships with those in the community, and becoming a part of our weekly routines.  But it also carries risks; bartenders and other bar workers rely almost entirely on tips for their livelihoods, and even a temporary shut down can be a serious financial hardship.

Let’s help ease the hardship on our friends behind the bar at Boxers and show them we appreciate them.  That money you’d tip them for a couple drinks when you stop in for a happy hour or on a weekend?  That’s their rent, and food, and they can still use it.  So let’s all toss in for the folks behind the bar while they can’t be there, take the financial burden off their shoulders, and help them through this furlough.
