Boxx Football Injury Recovery

Hey everyone,

My name is Brandi Zike and I'm the wife of Dawna "Boxx" Zike. Middle linebacker #52 for the Los Angeles Legends, a professional all-women's football tackle team.

My wife has been dedicated to this sport for years, and I fully support her. Despite being professional athletes, these women do not receive any pay and put their bodies at risk. I find their commitment and selflessness very admirable.

On Saturday, April 22nd, my wife played for the LA Legends in a game against the Oregon Ravens at our home stadium in Los Angeles. She set a goal to get a "pick 6" and was determined to achieve it. And she did! If you know Boxx, you know she always goes after her goals no matter what.

On her way down to the endzone near the sideline, Boxx was tackled and unfortunately broke her femur and suffered a hairline fracture in her hip. While some may argue that this is just part of the sport, I agree only to a certain extent. Boxx has undergone surgery and is now recovering at home. The doctor estimates that it will take a little over a year and a half for her to fully recover with consistent physical therapy.

Currently, it's only my wife, our two dogs, and me. I am juggling work and full-time schooling while providing her with complete support. However, I must be honest and say that I can't handle this situation alone.

In the next few weeks, both my wife and I will be going through a physically and emotionally challenging time. However, I am confident that we will overcome this obstacle since my wife is a strong person. We created a fundraiser to ask for help with our medical bills, physical therapy, dog care, laundry, and house maintenance while I support my wife's needs without resigning from my job and school.
