Cancer Medical Relief

 

Matt was taken to Brooks Hospital complaining of pain in his upper shoulder blades and could not walk. After many tests, x-rays, MRI, and blood work, the Dr. came back to reveal the most defeating news anyone could ever hear. He told Matt he had Cancer and that he would be transported to Roswell Park, Cancer Institute in Buffalo for emergency surgery on his back. Matt went into surgery in the late hours of Thursday, May, 18, 2023. On Friday, May 19, 2023, Matt and his family were told that the Dr.’s removed a mass off from his spine during surgery and inserted screws to C2-6 to help stabilize the spine where the mass was taken from. He was sent for more testing and was than told he still had many masses on his spine, lungs, and kidney and was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Renal Cancer. He is currently at Roswell Park and will eventually be treated at an inpatient rehab to continue, working on strengthening his legs and gaining movement and feeling while he continues treatment for the Cancer. Furthermore, he will start radiation treatment on his back next week for a continuous 5 days and continue to work on getting his leg strength back, pushing himself to be able to walk again. Before Matt is discharged from rehab, he will need to have his home modified for a wheelchair ramp along with other minor adjustments before he can come home. The past week has been intensely difficult for the entire family as they process this sudden and devastating news. Matt needs our help, as the last thing he should have to worry about right now is finances and other expenses . He has undergone many procedures, tests, and scans and there will be plenty more in the future. Matt is now in the fight of his life. Given the fact there will be a considerable amount of medical bills, travel, further testing and a prolonged period of no income, any amount helps.
