Hi! My name is Hannah Cowan- thank you for checking out my gofundme! I have been honored with the opportunity to play on the U.S. U20 National Ultimate Frisbee team this summer while it competes in the World Junior Ultimate Championship in Wroclaw, Poland. I am very excited for this amazing experience, however the expenses that go along with it are unfortunately something I cannot handle on my own, so I am turning to you all for help!

A little about me. I am currently a freshman at the University of Minnesota seeking a degree in microbiology, and I am on the pre-med track. After college, I plan to attend medical school and become an infectious disease specialist. When I am not in class or studying, I work in several jobs, including as a custodian at the University Health Clinic and a rec gymnastics coach for elementary-aged students through the St. Paul school district. I also teach taekwondo at the American Karate Studios, which is the studio I have trained at since I was 5. I have also begun volunteering in an immunology lab at the University where I am helping with a project investigating the mechanisms of rheumatoid arthritis. My days are usually pretty busy, but I find Ultimate is a great way for me to unwind. I am on the club team at the U of M and look forward to practice, as it is without a doubt the highlight of my week.

A little background about my ultimate experience. I have been playing Ultimate for 5 years. I started my freshmen year of high school and fell in love with Frisbee! I had always been active in sports, obtaining my black belt in taekwondo when I was 8, playing hockey until high school, and playing soccer through high school. Despite my involvement in many team sports, none of them have resonated with me like Ultimate. I especially enjoy that, unlike most sports, Ultimate values “Spirit of the Game,” which is a way of enforcing a high level of sportsmanship. I have yet to find a community that has successfully combined both sportsmanship and competition as well as the Ultimate community.

I am thrilled at the opportunity I have been given to play on the national team this summer, and do not take it lightly. I have put in a lot of work to get to where I am now and will continue this work to ensure that I can represent team USA to the best of my ability. I am looking forward to this experience and want to be able to prepare as thoroughly as possible. The one downside that this blessing has brought is the burden of cost. The considerable fees include traveling to Poland, training camp, lodging, food, etc. I am still in college and am therefore still paying tuition. Even working three jobs, financing this adventure is simply out of my reach. I am asking for help from family, friends, and even strangers. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. I am so thankful for any and all help I receive in financing this dream!
