Project Bridge

Project Bridge is a summer literacy program aimed at eliminating or reducing the summer learning loss for struggling readers who will be entering or repeating 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade. The program also nurtures the children's social and emotional growth and character/faith development. In addition, Project Bridge offers several college students an opportunity to gain teaching, leadership, and community experiences through paid internships. I am passionate about this program because I have witnessed repeatedly how a child who is discouraged or has given up on reading when the program begins transform into a confident reader who looks to books for pleasure and new knowledge when the program concludes. The relationship formed between each child and his/her Caring Adult and his/her intern works wonders for both the child and the adults.
