Dear friends, families, colleagues and strangers. Over the past three years, I’ve dedicated myself to help shape, build and curate Hawaii’s entrepreneur/startup/tech/innovation scene through my work with organizations including Startup Weekend Honolulu/Maui, the BoxJelly, Startup Hawaii, Honolulu Mini Maker Faire, Design Thinking Bootcamp and AD UP Hawaii.
I personally donate an enormous portion of my time and personal resources to these initiatives because I’m passionate about Hawaii, the people and inspiring positive change—and now I turn to you, the community, for help. My next task it to take a brief step back from these initiatives to educate myself and expand my skill set.
On August 31, I’ll be one of a few selected students for the next cohort at DevLeague, a programming boot camp based here in Hawaii. The tuition cost is $10,000 and it will give me access to intensive training for three months, 11 hours a day, 6 days a week of essential and in-depth computer programming.
Why you ask? Well over these last three years I’ve seen a common theme within our industry. There aren’t enough people able to build digital products, communicate with developers and articulate the technical side with business professionals. My end goal is to utilize programming tools to build great digital solutions while assist in closing the communication gap between technical minded professionals and business professionals.
Yes, the tuition is $10,000, and yes, I’m reaching here, but I promise, whether your donation is $1 or $10,000, that it will not only go toward my professional development, it will also go directly to building a better Hawaii:
This is why whatever the final total of donations ($10 or $10,000) I promise to personally donate 30% of that total to benefit the local non-profit The Purple Mai’a upon graduation from DevLeague. This non-profit is focused on providing underprivileged Hawaii communities access to technology through education.
I thank you all in advance and appreciate any amount we raise together!
Mahalo!
