Braelynn & Family
Braelynn Love Ann Rochlin
Trying to find the right way to start this story is difficult for me, because we never expected this to happen to our little girl.
Braelynn was born 12/5/19, beautiful healthy and thriving. 3hrs after she was born the pediatrician did her first exam and told us she had a broken left collar bone. This can be common in babies with fast deliveries. Which we did have.
On our second day of birth they decided to keep us an extra day because she had an ongoing “slight” temperature. I thank God everyday for that decision because around 48hrs after she was born Braelynn had a severe seizure.
At first the Drs. that rushed into the room after we called out for help ruled it as a choking fit. But a few hours later she had another seizure and that’s what brought us into our NICU stay.
That started ALL different types of tests to rule out what could be causing the seizures. All tests for infections were ruled out and so was a stroke. During her MRI they found 3 very small blood spots on the brain, and another one on the lower part of her brain. They have told us that this is common with fast deliveries, but in her case it developed a hematoma.
A hematoma is a bruise. In time we’re hoping for this bruise to absorb all the blood, and stop these seizures from happening all together. She is now on two different types of seizures medication. The main one is called Phenobarbital and the second one is called Keppra.
It’s day 10 now in the NICU and just as things start looking hopeful she will have what is called a “breakthrough” seizure, and her oxygen levels aren’t staying normal throughout the night. Keeping us longer and longer in the NICU until we can figure out how to stop these things from happening.
It took me a few days to go through with starting a Go Fund Me account, I’m not one to ask for help.
But with the days adding up here, so is the cost for food and gas for our family. Our 5yr old still goes to school daily which is an hour drive there and back to Sunriver.
As much as I want to be hopeful that we will be walking out these doors soon, that’s not the case. With her having another “breakthrough Seizure” this morning at 11am 12/16/19 it has restarted our time here in the NICU.
I appreciate you taking the time and reading our story, anything helps. Even if it’s just prayers and thoughts for our little girl.
