Brain Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
Tim Hamel was found slurring and incoherent upon awakening 2020-Jul5. He was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a brain stroke.  His mechanical ability broken down while in their care, face drooped, eye wandered, yet he retained complete cognizance. The following four days waiting for surgeons to schedule him were the longest days of his life, not knowing if his life would be extinguished. He underwent brain surgery for 6 hours to place a stint in the broken blood vessel, clean the surrounding area, and seal his skull with Titanium plates. While damage of that extent usually results in death, Tim somehow survived.

After surgery, Tim joked about the tall tales he would spin about his head scar and proved he retained his humor, memory, and onrenous. His humor is a boon to the nurses that aid him with intensive physical therapy while he regains motor functions.

He was always physically active, an avid outdoorsman, former military, and enjoyed rigorous construction jobs. His wife and four children are adapting to their new life, but medical bills must still be paid. Insurance covers some costs, but costs are ongoing. It was estimated his hospital stay was $10k daily, and his stay was 15 days. It is not known what the final bill will be nor when he will be released to his home, so a number was guessed at to cover a year of recovery. He is learning to walk and talk all over again.
