Brain Surgery, Med Airlift, & Hospital Expenses

Hello Friends,

This fundraiser is on behalf of my daughter Hailey. On Easter night she woke me up crying uncontrollably with excruciating pain in her head and loss of vision of anything on her right. I immediately knew I had to get her to the hospital. Initially they were going to give her a headache cocktail and send her home, however Hailey’s comment about the pain coming on immediately prompted the nurse practitioner to order a CT scan. The CT scan and other test confirmed she had a brain bleed caused by AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation). This is a rare disorder causing a cluster of tangled arteries that apparently develops from birth. The doctors shared she would need to be airlifted to Keck Hospital of USC immediately. They took her quickly, so I rushed home to pack and get on the road. We have been here since 4/18. I’m so grateful to our family and friends who all have been such an amazing support system. Hailey will now need to undergo open brain surgery on 4/28 to correct this issue. She will remain in Keck hospital from 4 to 7 days in recovery after the surgery.
