BRAIN TUMORS BE GONE! HELP LAW FIGHT CANCER!
Donation protected
sorry, need to update some information for the GoFundMe folks:
Hi, my name is Jenica Brown - from Edmonton, Alberta. I am a close family friend of Law’s and will be helping his family manage this page while they worry about all the other things on their plate. As mentioned in the below story, the funds raised here are intended to cover the additional fees associated with Law’s medical treatment in Florida. These include flights, accommodations, car rentals, groceries, and other day to day expenses incurred over the 2 month period. These funds are setup so Law’s mom (Amanda L’Hirondelle) can withdraw them directly to her account.

How you can help:
We’re trying to raise $25,000 to cover the secondary costs (i.e., accommodations, airfare etc.) of a particular radiation treatment for Law that is only offered in the United States. Your donations will help alleviate some of the financial burden brought on by this horrible prognosis, so we can focus on kicking cancer in the ass!
How we got here:
On December 24th, 2021, Law was rushed to the Stollery Children's Hospital after experiencing frightening medical symptoms affecting his vision. The diagnosis was that Law had suffered a small brain bleed due to a tumour in the pineal region of his brain. Law has a rare form of brain cancer impacting 1 in 50,000 people with an 80% recovery rate based on the proposed treatment protocol. Law will require a total of 6 chemotherapy treatments and 6 weeks of radiation at a clinic in the US.
Where we are at:
Law's medical team has prescribed proton therapy: a type of radiation treatment that directly targets the tumour while minimizing the impact on surrounding organs. Because of Law’s young age, we want to do everything we can to reduce the impact of the radiation on his body while still effectively treating the tumour and limiting the possibility of recurrence. Unfortunately, this type of radiation treatment for Law is only offered in the United States. The UF Health Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville, Florida, has very high success rates with pediatric patients and, therefore, has been selected as the location for Law's radiation treatments. Law will require 6 weeks of daily treatment (Mon-Fri), with 1-2 weeks of pre-radiation appointments and post-radiation follow-ups, to start in May after his chemotherapy is complete. After radiation, Law's medical team will re-assess whether Law will require additional treatment - be it chemo or more radiation.
We, and his medical team, are confident that a medical grant will cover the cost of his radiation treatment. Unfortunately, the grant only covers the radiation treatment costs, medical treatments associated with this radiation, and return flight costs for him and 1 parent. That means the accommodations, airfare for his other 2 parents, food, vehicle rental, and insurance are all out of pocket, as well as any potentially lost wages. At this point, we have already had to take time off work to be with him throughout his chemotherapy treatments and medical appointments and will continue to do so as things progress. This has required us to start dipping into both sick and vacation time. We will likely have to take a leave of absence at some point to cover the time spent in Florida.
Law's medical team has advised that this will be more than a 6 month intense process with lifelong maintenance required. It goes without saying the financial burden of Law's diagnosis is substantial.
After carefully analyzing the expected costs associated with Law’s treatment, our goal is to raise $25,000CAD. This will help us focus on Law’s care and kicking cancer to the curb!
Law's strength and courage throughout his prognosis continue to amaze us all. Every day, he continues to show humility, humour and strength. We are deeply grateful for all the outpouring of love and support to date and will continue to provide updates throughout Law's journey as we learn more.
If we do not require all of the funding received, excess funds will be donated to the Kid’s with Cancer Society as we would like to help other families going through similar circumstances in any way we can. No parent should ever have to go through this, yet the sheer number of kids and families fighting the same battle is astonishing.
