Brandon DuBois

As some know, but many don’t, the last year has been extremely challenging for my younger brother Brandon DuBois. Brandon has a condition called Pectus Escavatum. Pectus Excavatum is when the cartilage that connects the bones in the chest wall press inward, causing the chest- where the sternum is located- to appear as a dent in the chest. For many this diagnosis does not hinder their quality of life. However, in Brandon's case, the impact is quite severe. Brandon's chest is pressed so deep that his heart beats at about 35 beats per minute and he has a lung that is partially compensating for the other. His body has become tired and is physiologically that of a 70-year-old at 27.
The surgery itself will consist of two metal rods being placed into his chest to prevent the chest wall from hitting his lungs and give his heart room. His stay in the hospital is an estimated 4-7 days after the procedure. During the months leading up to the approval of this procedure, Brandon has undergone many tests. During one of these tests, Brandon collapsed and CPR had to be performed. These tests have been very costly, as is the procedure. The estimated cost after the procedures and testing is about 10,000. Brandon will have the help of his family after his surgery as he will be unable to do anything for six weeks. This includes driving.
This diagnosis and the impacts of the Pectus Escavatum has prevented Brandon from being able to work for the last 9 months. He has received some financial assistance in the form of 300 dollars a week as an income from short-term disability to pay bills, eat, gas for appointments, and any other life necessities. This assistance from short-term disability has recently come to an end. Leaving Brandon with no source of income, as his bills have begun to come in. As a family, we are trying to help Brandon as much as possible. Brandon is someone who will help anyone and does help when and where he can.
We are asking that even if you cannot donate PLEASE keep Brandon in your thoughts and prayers and please pass this along. We will be making a page so that everyone can keep up with Brandon's story and can read a little about Pectus Escavatum.
Thank you!
