No one ever wants to write something like this, and when it’s for a person who prefers to be private, it is even more difficult.
Due to the extreme circumstances we have decided it’s better to ask for help, and deal with Brandon’s annoyance with us later…
Brandon went into cardiac arrest yesterday evening after a week of cold/flu symptoms. From walking into the ER, feeling awful but upright, to being placed on a ventilator and ECMO (heart bypass) in a matter of HOURS. A virus has aggressively attacked his heart leading to Fulminant myocarditis, an uncommon and very life threatening event.
He is only 34 years old, a veteran, healthy, hard working and loving father to our daughter as well as an irreplaceable part of his girlfriend and her daughter’s world.
He has went through several life saving procedures in the last 24 hours. He is responding well, for all that he has endured, but the road ahead is long and uncertain. His doctors are preparing him for a transfer in the coming days to a hospital that can perform a heart transplant.
This will most likely be in Nashville. We are asking for funds to help us continue to be there for him after he is moved hours away from us. Family members will need to be able to travel and/or stay in Nashville frequently. Gas and lodging will be a significant expense.
We are also asking for funds to help keep Brandon’s household afloat. His mortgage, car note and utility bills will keep coming.
The doctors are optimistic, but even in a best case scenario he is looking at MONTHS of inpatient recovery. We have absolutely no idea what medical bills will look like for him going forward and will have to tackle that when the time comes.
As a family we are stepping up as much as we can, picking up extra shifts, hustling side gigs, finding programs for assistance and caring for his pets; while also trying to be there for him and each other.
We are eternally grateful for anything you can contribute to support Brandon and the people who love him during his recovery.
