Brandon Otis' Emergency Hospital Surgery

Donation protected
Brandon Otis is an incredible friend, brother, dog dad, son, and genuinely one of the most caring human beings. Anyone that knows him can share similar kind words, and stories that relate to his selflessness and loving character. We all love him dearly to say the least. He is generally healthy and has never been to the hospital for medical reasons for himself his entire life since birth!

However, on February 2nd that changed. Everyone thought he had just a typical stomach bug from something he ate, but it turned out to be much more severe than that. We are beyond grateful for the IV concierge nurse that was sent by one of our family friends to the house to get him rehydrated. This nurse very well could have saved his life by telling him that he needs to go immediately to the hospital due to his symptoms. Man, how grateful we all are for her making that call.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Brandon had a cat scan done and the doctors quickly found out that he had what is known as intussusception. This is a severe condition in which part of the intestine slides into an adjacent part of the intestine. Emergency surgery was needed to take place right away. Without hesitation, our family signed approval for surgery, and off to the operating room Brandon went.

Sometimes unexpected events in life pop up that are simply out of your control and this experience is one of those. After a few nerve-racking, unbearable, and worrisome hours passed finally Brandon’s surgeon came out to speak with us. He said that Brandon's surgery went very well. He was able to remove part of his intestine that had died and stitch back together the existing healthy parts. Brandon was moved into the SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) where they are taking excellent care of him.

Brandon is recovering slowly but surely in the hospital. He was able to make a full lap walking all the way around the ICU the following morning after surgery. Brandon doesn't have health insurance and is self-employed. His latest career involves super neat stuff with 3d printing and laser engraving which is his latest life passion. A hospital trip involving emergency surgery like this will destroy anyone's finances. We are beyond grateful for every single nurse and doctor who contributed to resolving this issue and saving his life.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have sent your thoughts, prayers, messages, and well wishes his way. He feels the love and it is sincerely appreciated. We will post updates here as his recovery progresses.

Ways you can help:

  • We are asking for you to donate to Brandon’s Go Fund Me to help fund medical expenses and life until he is able to get back on his feet.
  • A share across social media platforms would also be appreciated to spread the word.
  • Keeping Brandon in your thoughts & prayers as he continues his recovery to daily life.
  • An extra hand will be needed as he recovers helping with meals and Bo Bo (dog) duties in Lantana if anyone is able to lend a hand.
  • A meal train could provide a great deal of help on an as-needed basis once we have a release date for him from the hospital.

Please don't take any day for granted especially if you are healthy! Every day is a blessing.
