Brandon & Zoë's Journey to Safety ❤️
Donation protected
Greetings and thank you for taking interest in our fundraising campaign✨
Let us introduce ourselves, we are Brandon & Zoë, and we just got married! ❤️
- Brandon was born in Mexico but as a toddler he came to the United States as a DACA recipient.
- He's currently a graphic design/marketing manager by day, and an aspiring tattoo artist by night.
- Zoë was born with a medical disability known as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that affects her entire body & all of its functions.
- Zoë was originally from Washington state, but as a teen was relocated by her family to Indiana, and that is where Zoë & Brandon met as high school graduates in 2020.
- Zoë is currently a graphic design/marketing associate by day, and a computer building/chronic illness content creator by night.
In the following years, Zoë's health has taken a turn for the worse, and Brandon has really stepped into a role of a caregiver for Zoë when her health fails her.
After almost 5 years together, we recognized that under the current Trump presidency, there's a potential threat to the status of DACA recipients, so we got married November 15th, 2024!
We didn't have a budget for a wedding, we didn't have money for a dress, but we knew we would do anything for the safety of our loved ones.
Zoë sewed a veil from a curtain in her kitchen, and we held our ceremony at a park we used to hike at the beginning of our relationship.
There's a large misconception that getting legalized after getting married is a simple route to citizen status, which couldn't be further from the truth.
The total price for Brandon's legalization is $7000 after lawyer & government fees, of which we've already started paying on.
Living in Indiana has proven to be difficult for a couple like us.
Rampant racism has made Brandon feel unsafe:
- (citing racist flyers left by KKK on nearby doors & Senator Mike Braun's beliefs on interracial marriage)
Living in a medical desert, Zoë has struggled to receive necessary medical care for her medical conditions.
Zoë's family has returned to the state of Washington, of which we plan to follow suit, moving across the country to Zoë's home state for better medical care and peace of mind.
We are exhausted, working as many side hustles as we can on top of our day jobs but are still struggling to save for the move & pay for these legalization fees at the same time.
Please DON'T feel obligated to donate, but any help is greatly appreciated, as every penny will be put towards these legalization fees & the move! ❤️
