Brandon Ferris' Recovery
Donation protected
Family and friends near and far have rallied around Brandon Ferris and his family showing an outpouring of love and support since his swimming accident on Saturday, July 15, 2017. We thank God that Brandon is with us!
Many of you reading this are personally connected to Brandon and his family: parents Megan and Tony, older brother Kyle and younger brother Colin. Others may know about Brandon’s tragic circumstance through extended family and friends.
Just weeks after his high school graduation and open house, Brandon- 18 years old- suffered a cervical spinal cord injury as a result of a swimming accident. He was transported to Muskegon's Mercy Health Hackley Campus and stabilized in ICU. On Thursday, July 20, 2017, he was transferred by ambulance to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids. There, Brandon will receive intensive, daily care and rehabilitation for the next two to three months.
Brandon's lower cervical vertebrae, C5 & C6, are fractured. A recent x-ray showed the medical halo is keeping the vertebrae aligned. The trauma to his spinal cord has currently left Brandon severely incapacitated and hospitalized. While the swelling and pooling of fluid in the spinal cord is interfering with his sensory and motor functions, the specifics of what has been compromised is unknown at this time. Since in ICU, Brandon has gained sensory function in his upper body and mobility in certain arm muscles. He continues to have limitations with hand movement and has no sensory or mobility function from his chest down. Brandon has a long road of intensive rehabilitation, care, and recovery ahead of him.
Tony, Megan, Kyle, and Colin appreciate all of your love and support! Many expressed wanting to help Brandon and the family beyond supportive messages, texts, phone calls, prayer lines, visits, and meals.
Since medical expenses and care for Brandon are going to be overwhelming, please consider supporting and assisting in this way too. All donations will be put into an account specifically established for the sole purpose of helping pay for Brandon's medical and care expenses that are not covered by insurance.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, reaching out to Brandon and the family, and showing your love and support. Updates of Brandon's status will be shared.
Please continue sending positive thoughts and healing prayers for Brandon.
