Brandon was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on January 11th, 2018. He received a bone marrow transplant (his older brother was the donor) and had been in remission until he relapsed again on March 1, 2022.
On March 1, 2022, we got the devastating news that Brandon’s cancer was back. Just the week before, he’d won the Player of the Year Award for his basketball team, and he was eagerly looking forward to starting up baseball again. As his top grades show, Brandon loves learning, and he was enjoying being back in person at the Junior High, playing around with his friends in between classes and laughing at lunch.
Now, thirteen-year-old Brandon faces a year of hospitalization and a hard fight to save his life. Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a beast, but Brandon has the best care possible, and we know he will survive this. However, the long journey to remission will be emotionally, physically, and financially exhausting for his family. They need our help getting through this.
Making a challenging situation even worse, Brandon’s mother, Elizabeth, was recently let go from her job due to their claim that she was too distracted by her son’s cancer to keep up with her workload. She was offered no severance package, and unemployment will not cover all of the expenses she will accrue while in the hospital with Brandon as one of his primary caretakers.
We created this GoFundMe to help support Elizabeth as she supports Brandon. Money raised will go towards food, paying her mortgage back home, and gas to and from the hospital in San Diego, where Brandon is, to her home in Brawley to see her other two children. Funds raised will go towards therapy and additional support for Brandon’s siblings to help them through this challenging time, and it will help cover some of Brandon’s medical bills.
This is a difficult situation for everyone involved, and we appreciate the outpouring of love and support we’ve received from you all. Helping take this financial stress off Elizabeth’s shoulders will be a massive help, and we thank you for anything you can donate.
*** Update: We lost our sweet Brandon early Wednesday, August 24th. We thank you for all of your love and support. Our lives will be forever changed by this loss.
