Braulio "Lio" Nevarez

Hello, my name is Jim Westfall and I am raising money for his family to help send Lio home.

Tragically, on the evening of Thursday, January 26, the Nevarez family and all of us in the Sierra City and Downieville communities lost our friend and brother Braulio “Lio” Nevarez who was taken from us by the North Yuba River just outside of Downieville.

The last time Rosa and I saw Lio alive was that afternoon riding his bike down Main Street as we have all seen him do so many times before. The next time we saw him was on the bank of the river surrounded by an infinite number of angels that were working tirelessly to save his life.

Lio struggled with many things in this life and his soul is now with his creator in a much better and more peaceful place however, it is the culture and wish of his family that his body is returned to be buried at the family plot in Otaez, Durango, Mexico. This is where Lio’s mortal body needs to be, his final resting place.

The Nevarez family would like to thank all the angels from the Downieville and Sierra City Fire Departments for working so hard to bring him back. It is without a doubt that they did everything they could to try and bring him back. You are forever in our hearts and we are so fortunate and thankful to have you in our communities.
